Mission Statement:

SooNet has evolved to become a website and software engineering and development firm that is committed to providing unique solutions for our business clients.  We endeavour to provide state of the art websites and software that is intuitive and easy to use, as well as quick to deploy.  We are driven to help our clients improve their business efficiency through the use of information technology.

Corporate History:

SooNet Corp. began business during the summer of 1994 in Sault Ste. Marie Ontario as one of Canada's first Internet Service Providers (ISP). The business was started by a number of local "visionaries"; and by late 1997 ownership of the company had changed completely with none of the original owners left.  As an ISP SooNet saw continuous growth in provisioning of Internet services from it's inception in 1994 through until 2001.  The year 2001 saw increased competition from the monopoly telephone and cable providers with high speed services; and because of limited resources for infrastructure development to compete against these much larger companies, we sought to diversify our business direction.  Besides providing just Internet access and web hosting services, we developed expertise in training, web site design, software engineering, e-commerce and consulting. 

In June of 2002, SooNet Corp. sold the Internet portion of our business to Vianet Internet Solutions, a regional ISP based in Sudbury Ontario.  Internet access and web hosting is now handled by Vianet, but SooNet Corp. still remains as a corporate entity that is now concentrating on custom website design, e-commerce, IT consulting, and software development. 

Business Direction:

We primarily work at developing unique websites for customers that include automation for website upkeep and maintenance.  We have developed websites that include database access, and data entry systems, client feedback, product catalog and ordering systems, bulletin boards, event calendars, and other similar systems that help clients to maintain an active and updated website..

One of our business thrusts include developing other custom software packages.  We currently have software for Real Estate agencies, and Automotive Dealerships that allow them to maintain a current and up to date web site with all their real estate listings or automotive inventory respectively.  We can also provide e-Commerce solutions for Business to Consumer (B2C) or Business to Business (B2B).

We also offer consulting services to help other businesses improve systems and efficiency.

Community Involvement:

As a strong supporter of community, SooNet provides some gratis services for some community groups.  We have maintained The Ontario Winter Carnival Bon Soo web site from 1997 through to 2004.  Over our years of existence, SooNet Corp. has provided web design and hosting services have been provided for a number of community groups including the Young Eagles, Rotary, Lions Club and a number of other community service clubs and organizations.
